How to Enable Car Wash Mode on a Tesla
Before entering any car wash, put your Tesla in Car Wash Mode. This single setting handles most of the concerns above automatically.
- Open the Controls menu on the touchscreen
- Tap Service
- Select Car Wash Mode
Car Wash Mode does the following automatically:
- Locks the charge port door
- Folds and locks the door handles (Model S/X)
- Folds the mirrors
- Disables Autopilot, parking sensors, and automatic wipers
- Closes all windows
- Activates Free Roll mode (disables auto-hold and parking brakes)
💡 Important: Car Wash Mode is available on Model 3, Model Y, Model S, and Model X. If your vehicle doesn't have it, manually fold mirrors, close windows, and disable auto wipers before entering.
